Sports Programs aim to improve access to recreational sports and to link sports with social justice themes such as empowering girls and people with disabilities, and combating racial prejudice.
AZERBAIJAN DISABILITY SPORTS, 2014-2015
In the fall of 2014 ITD conducted a program for fourteen coaches, physical education teachers, and disability workers from Azerbaijan in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. The Azerbaijanis took part in activities to promote their skills in adapting sports for youth with disabilities. The next phase of this grant project is to send an American counterpart delegation of six to Azerbaijan in January 2016. Read more -->
FRANCE YOUTH BASKETBALL, 2011-2012
This program paired the cities of Marseille, France and Springfield, Massachusetts in an exchange of non-elite youth basketball players. The goal was to open new worlds to young recreational athletes in urban areas, give them the opportunity to develop and practice leadership skills, and encourage them to make a difference to younger children in their communities. KOSOVO SOCCER FOR GIRLS
iN 2012-2013 ITD conducted an International Sports Programming Initiative to promote soccer for Kosovar girls ages 7-15, and to improve coaching of these girls on a large scale. Read more-->
